The hard disk is a magnetic storage device where all files, including applications, are stored. The hard disk is considered a permanent storage device because the information placed there is not erased when the computer is shut off or loses power. Hard disks are usually located within the main body of the computer but it is possible to have an external hard disk in its own peripheral enclosure.
