A
pathname is the unique identifier for a particular file or directory,
specifying its location. Pathnames are like road maps that tell
you how to get from one place in the directory hierarchy to another.
The two types
of pathnames are absolute and relative.
The slashes
between the pathnames are delimiters between object names. The first
slash represents the / (root)
directory. For example:
