There are a few other button besides the Application Launcher that will come in handy as you work with the KDE:

  • The Windowlist button is just to the right of the Application Launcher. This button lists all of the open windows (much like the taskbar at the top of the screen)
  • The Button next to the Windowlist that looks like a house with a folder on it will open your home folder and allow you to work with the files inside.

  • Next to the Home Folder button is the Control Center button with you can use to change the way the KDE looks and behaves.

  • The next button is the Utilities button (a box with tools in front). This button presents a menu of useful utilities that you can run.

  • Next to the Utilities button is are two small buttons, one on top of the other. The one on top (with the X) is to log out of the KDE, this will take you back to your log in screen. The one on bottom (with a picture of a lock) is to lock the desktop, this will activate the screensaver and require a password to turn it off. The button under the desk is the.

  • The buttons next to that, labeled on through four, are used to switch you between the four default desktops. Each desktop can have its own applications running that are not displayed in the other desktops. This is useful for keeping your environment neat and organized.
