Most
of the work that you do on the computer will involve files in
some way. This means that you need some way of managing your
files; moving them to different directories, renaming them,
deleting them, etc. To accomplish all of these file management
tasks the KDE comes with the K File Manager or KFM.
The
KFM is launched when you first log on to the system, so you
can start working with it right away. The most prominent icon
you see in the KFM looks like a manila folder (much like you
would store in a file cabinet). These icons are directories
(called folders in the KFM) where files and subfolders are stored.
The icons contained in the folders can vary in appearance. Some
are for applications that will launch when double-clicked, others
are for files (such as text or document files) that will launch
an associated application when double-clicked. For example when
you double-click a text file the text editor application will
be launched and open the file you double-clicked.
