The command
line in Linux is just too powerful a tool to give up entirely, therefore
GNOME gives you access to the command line.
The easiest
way to access the command line in GNOME is to click the terminal
button on the Panel (it is a foot in front of a monitor). This will
bring up a terminal program from which you can run any command line
program you need.
