LAN
A Local Area Network is a grouping of computers that are connected via cabling and other connecting devices so that they can exchange data.

LINUX
Free Unix-like operating system kernel created by Linus Torvalds. Commonly, the entire operating system is referred to as Linux.

Logging In
To gain access to a specific computer, or program, or a network by identifying oneself with a username and a password. Same as log on.

Logging Out
To terminate a session with a computer accessed through a communications line - usually a computer that's both distant and open to many users. Same as log off.

Login ID
The numeric identifier for the user. Each login name has a corresponding user ID. Both the login name and the user ID are established in the password database.

LPT Port
This is the device name usually used to descibe a parallel communications port. Printers and scanners are usually connected to LPT ports.
