NIS +
Sun's (Network Information Services). Designed to replace certain key files on Sun's UNIX systems, such as the passwd file containing user names and the hosts file containg host name to addresss mapping. The latest version of NIS.

Noclobber
An option that can be set up not to overwrite existing files. This option applies only to the current shell I/O redirection; it is possible for other programs to overwrite existing files.

Non-volatile memory
This is memory that retains its contents even after power to the system is lost.
